"Get Lucky: How to Put Planned Serendipity to Work for You and Your Business" is written by Thor Muller and Lane Becker and published by Jossey-Bass.

Muller and Becker are self-described serial entrepreneurs. They are co-founders of Get Satisfaction, a platform for online customer service communities with nearly 100,000 organizations. In working with some of the largest companies in the world, the two began to see certain patterns with successful companies.

"Good luck is hard work" is the title of a section at the beginning of the book. Success, instead of being about luck, is based at least in part on how you harness serendipitous events, say the authors.

The authors of "Get Lucky" outline their eight key elements for success and provide examples of how major brands have used serendipitous opportunity to grow.

The authors argue that with the proper skills, any business owner can use serendipity to her advantage. They introduce the concept of "planned serendipity," wherein business owners don't spend so much time with their nose in a business plan, and instead open up to the opportunities that surround them.
