"Management Stripped Bare: What They Don't Teach You at Business School" by Jo Owen and published by Kogan Page is in its 3rd edition.

Management Stripped Bare is designed to be an everyday tool for managers based on author Owen's 20 years of working with some of the best, and worst, businesses in the world.

The book is laid out like a glossary of business terms, from A to Z. However, it's not written like a dry dictionary, but rather in a colorful and sometimes anecdotal way.

One chapter, under "Y" is called "The Yogi and the Commissar" and notes that the "great manager is an impossible creature: a combination of the yogi and the commissar. The yogi has deep insight. *** The commissar is a paragon of efficiency." It then goes on to make the point that most managers cannot be both. The trick is to not try to be both, and don't try to be one if you are really the other - bring in someone to support you in the other role.

The rest of the book is filled with similar practical observations.

Focusing on experience rather than theory, Management Stripped Bare cuts through the usual hype and rhetoric to help make sense of business.
