"Otherwise Engaged" is a guide to better communication between employers and employees, particularly when it comes to sharing the "intangibles", the author's term for what is known as "soft skills". These are the skills that you don't go to college for, but are expected to demonstrate as a professional. They separate "just clocking in" from the "I'm excited to work here". The author argues that focusing on building these "intangibles" is what keeps employees engaged. Leadership can continue that cycle of engagement if they know what to look for and begin to address it. Leaders who get their "intangibles" have a more effective way of connecting with their employees.
