The premise of "The Optimistic Workplace" is that happiness can and should be a part of the "benefits" and "products" of working in a place. The books make the case that managers should adopt a stewardship leadership model, in which they facilitate (rather than force) happiness in their work culture. The ways a manager can do that are many and varied, from providing a simple compliment to providing an innovative employee recognition program. The book covers the psychology justifying its belief that happiness is good for both productivity and business profitability. It also provides short-term plans to help managers get started.
