The annual Library of Congress National Book Festival is a free event open to the public, and held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The festival includes authors, poets, and illustrators from all genres, who will be signing books and giving talks.

President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama serve as honorary chairs for the event. There are activities for adults and children alike. In addition to the book signings and talks, there also is entertainment and the opportunity to have photos taken.

The festival accepts nominations for authors, illustrators, and poets from publishers. Authors should have won book awards at the national level and have published a significant book recently.
