LibraryThing is a service that helps people catalog their books online. Created by Tim Spalding, a web developer and web publisher based in Portland, Maine, LibraryThing lets users access their catalogs from anywhere, including on their mobile phones.

The catalog also makes suggestions for further reading, based on what a user has catalogued. LibraryThing searches the Library of Congress, all five national Amazon sites, and more than 690 world libraries to provide a comprehensive database of books.

Users can "tag" books with their own subjects or use the Library of Congress and Dewey systems to organize their collections.

LibraryThing also has a community component. Users can visit other users' libraries, exchange reading suggestions, and connect over their love of reading.

There are groups for every genre of book where fans can chat about books, and authors can participate to get to know their fans.
