Used for a variety of purposes, Evernote is essentially a way to take notes digitally and organize them into "notebooks." For authors, it can serve multiple uses.

Through the desktop version, authors can clip web links for research or snippets from websites to use later, using the Evernote Web Clipper extension for a browser. Through the mobile app version of Evernote, authors can record interviews or notes on the go so that the don't forget anything. Users can also take photos from their phones and save them instantly to Evernote.

Some authors take notes on whiteboards as part of the creative process. Snap a photo of the notes, and they're instantly available through Evernote.

Additionally, Evernote has other useful tools for authors including:

- Skitch, which allows users to draw on top of text
- Hello, a contact management platform
- Clearly, for content curation and research
- Penultimate, for drawing and handwriting

Evernote also has partnered with many paperless, audio and notetaking mobile apps to enhance user experience and keep authors organized.
