"No, You Can't Pick My Brain, It Costs Too Much" is written by Adrienne Graham, a strategic consultant, and the CEO of Hues Consulting & Management Inc., a diversity recruitment consulting firm.
This book arose out of a blog post on Forbes.com that the author wrote and says sparked a worldwide conversation resonating with consultants, professionals and service providers who feel they have been taken advantage of by people wanting something for nothing.
At the heart of the problem, the author notes, is that many professionals have no idea how to assign value to their knowledge. Nor do they know where to draw the line between free and friendly advice, and getting paid for a consultation.
Inside this book is guidance on how to position yourself as an expert; differentiate between legitimate requests for advice versus free consulting; and where to draw the line between giving some initial free advice and a fee-based consultation -- and making it stick. You will find chapters such as "The Barter Experience - Like Begets Like," "Just Google It and Leave Me Alone!" as well as "You're An Expert, Stand Your Ground!"
